Our Services
Every tree is different, which is what makes them an asset to any garden or setting. With this in mind there is no one size fits all approach when it comes to maintaining them.

Tree surgery and its different practices and techniques can be overwhelming, so below we have explained what they mean for you and your trees.

We also offer certified tree reporting and condition reports, please see below for more information.
Crown Thinning
The process of removing the branches from the crown of a tree without reducing the shape of the tree but allowing light to penetrate through the canopy.
Crown Reduction
The process of reducing the size of the tree's crown whilst maintaining a visually attractive shape.
Crown Lift/Raise
The process of reducing the size of the tree's crown whilst maintaining a visually attractiveshape.

Pollarding
A pruning technique used for many reasons such as:
• Preventing trees and shrubs outgrowing their allotted space.
• Pollarding can reduce the shade cast by a tree.
• May be necessary on street trees to prevent electric wires and streetlights being obstructed.
Tree Felling
Cutting a tree down, to ground level or to a specified height.
Dead Wooding
Dead wood within a tree occurs branches or limbs die in a tree. These can either break off over time or during periods of high winds and storms.
Dead wooding is mainly used for safety and for the continued health of a tree, though there are other benefits too. A lot of dead wood in a tree reduces its aesthetic appearance, reduces the amount of light that can pass through and can make the tree more susceptible to failing in high winds and inclement weather.
Stump Grinding
Stump grinding sees a stump removed, often with either hand tools or machinery such as a stump grinder. Where a stump grinder is used, the arisings from the stump will be used to fill the hole left by the stump and leave the ground level

Tree Surveys & Inspection
Anyone who owns their own home and/or land, or those managing land which have trees on them have a legal obligation to ensure the trees on their land are in a ‘safe condition so that
foreseeable damage does not occur due to tree failure’.
Guidance issued by the Government, the Forestry Commission and the Arboricultural Association advises that a tree survey is regularly undertaken by a professional tree surveyor.
BCTS are fully qualified (Professional Tree Inspection, accredited with LANTRA) with an in-depth knowledge of plant and arboriculture science ensuring comprehensive tree surveys will be undertaken.
We will visit site to undertake a tree inspection, and produce a survey which will identify hazardous trees and a report will make prioritised recommendations to support reductions in owner liability. An inspection frequency will ensure that you as the owner do not need to waste money by inspecting healthy trees in future tree surveys.

We're also proud to be studying toward achieving the Level 4 in Arboriculture Studies, accredited by LANTRA. If you are in need of a tree survey – get in touch with us for a free, no obligation quote.
